All things considered, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a successful 2022 NFL Draft. Opinions about selecting Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker with the first overall pick have been mixed but they’ve been praised for trading up and taking Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd at No. 27. Similarly, picking center Luke Fortner in the third round has earned them positive reviews.

Having said that, could the Jags have come out of the draft with an even better haul? It’s hard to tell but instead of double-dipping at linebacker and cornerback, general manager Trent Baalke had the chance to target other positions but didn’t. With that in mind, here are three needs the Jaguars failed to address in this year’s selection meeting.

No. 1 the Jaguars failed to address in the 2022 NFL Draft – Quarterback.

The Jaguars have a starting quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, so they would have raised plenty of eyebrows if they had invested an early-round selection in a signal-caller. However, they could have used a late-round pick on the position. After all, backup C.J. Beathard is set to become a free agent next offseason and even if he remains in Jacksonville, the top brass’ could have added a developmental prospect.

Sure, the Jags eventually signed Brown quarterback EJ Perry as an undrafted free agent but they had six picks in the last two rounds of the draft and they could easily be allocated one of them to their quarterback room.

The rates for good backup quarterbacks have gone up considerably in recent years. Why spend so much in the position when you can draft and develop your own?
