No. 3 prospect the Jaguars can draft at No. 1 – Travon Walker, DL.

The draft process is always full of twists and turns and this year is no different. One of the most unexpected developments in recent weeks has been the rise of Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker on big boards. Just a few months ago, he was seen as a late first-round prospect but his stock has soared after his outstanding performance at the NFL Scouting Combine.

One of the reasons Walker was overlooked was his lack of production in a stacked Georgia defense but a closer look will show he frequently dominated his rivals. Sure, it’s important to put up good numbers and his weren’t particularly thrilling. Last season, he logged six sacks but only had 3.5 the previous two years. Then again, he didn’t get as many defensive snaps as some of the other top prospects, so he didn’t have many opportunities to produce. This could actually work in his favor.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Walker lined up anywhere across the Bulldogs’ defensive line and fulfilled whatever assignment he was given. This kind of flexibility would give the Jaguars’ coaching staff to use him as a chess piece and move him wherever he can make the biggest impact.

Walker is becoming a legitimate candidate to go first overall and Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Jacksonville’s interest in him is legit. He might continue to move up in their big board in the upcoming weeks and could give the Jaguars a tough decision on Draft Night.
