Doug Pederson will have a big say in the Jaguars’ pick at No. 1.

Not long ago Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said, “I still believe that games are won and lost in the trenches…” At the time, he was stressing the importance of protecting Trevor Lawrence. And knowing the importance of building around Lawrence, Pederson’s comments are a glance at the moves that will most likely happen barring any major moves in the draft position.

The media and fans alike are making their cases for which direction is best for the Jaguars but ultimately the club needs to decide what’s best for them in the long run. They’re saying they want a bookend tackle that can protect Lawrence for the foreseeable future. Leadership in the front office could be trying to hit a home run with a playmaker on the defensive line to take the pressure off Josh Allen.

There’s no doubt the experience that Pederson brings shows that he will have what it takes to lead this team. The path to relativity is a road that will take some time to build and they can’t afford to mess up yet another “rebuild.” Trusting the leaders this time around will not disappoint.
