Jaguars post FA mock draft – 2nd round, 33rd pick: Justyn Ross, WR.

The Jaguars made their wide receiver corps a priority in free agency, signing Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. The duo will join a group that includes Marvin Jones Jr., Laquon Treadwell, and Laviska Shenault Jr. On paper, the unit looks better than it did last season but the Jags can’t stop adding talent this offseason, that’s why they should target Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross, who was coincidentally teammates with Trevor Lawrence. Then again, that’s not the sole reason he should be their pick at number 33.

Ross missed the 2020 season after undergoing spinal cord surgery. He displayed no setbacks the following year and went on to haul in 46 receptions for 516 yards with three touchdowns despite the fact that he didn’t have the best quarterback play. Back in his freshman campaign, the Alabama native caught 46 passes for 1,000 yards with nine touchdowns. And in 2019, he amassed a healthy 66 receptions for 865 yards with eight touchdowns.

Although Ross needs to work on expanding his route tree, he has the speed and athleticism to play the position at the pro level. Nate Tice of Bleacher Report’s Scouting department describes him as “a competitive player whose effort and play speed never dipped” even though he was in a frustrating situation at Clemson last season.

The Jaguars’ coaching staff should expect Ross to contribute right off the bat but if he needed time to develop, they could bring him along slowly due to the depth at the position.
