No. 4 free agent the Jaguars can still sign – Jadeveon Clowney, DE.

Based on all the purchases the Jaguars have made so far, it looks like they could be targeting Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson with the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. They have bolstered both lines, added weapons on offense, and even signed linebacker Foyesade Oluokun. However, the team’s brass has refrained from adding an edge rusher in free agency.

Targeting Chandler Jones and Von Miller might not currently be plausible due to their asking price and the reduced cap space the Jaguars have after all the signings they made. However, the general manager should consider pursuing defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who isn’t as accomplished as Jones or Miller but is coming off a nine-sack season with the Cleveland Browns.

Although Clowney has become somehow nomadic in recent years, he can still be a difference-maker when healthy. On the other hand, the first overall pick in the 2014 draft has only played a full season once and has missed 15 games over the last four years. Then again, he’s posted Pro Football Focus overall grades of 75.0 or higher in six of the last seven seasons.

The Jaguars may not be thinking about signing a pass rusher in free agency and may want to wait until the draft o add one but if they have a chance to land Clowney, they should go ahead and do it.
