3 potential landing spots for former Jaguars LB Myles Jack
There’s a finite number of roster spots on a roster, so the Jacksonville Jaguars will have to part ways with several players to make room for the newcomers. They already started the process and cut ties with linebacker Myles Jack one week after releasing veteran running back Carlos Hyde.
Releasing Mack created $8.3 million in cap room with $4.8 million in dead money. That infusion of cap space can certainly come in handy after all the contacts the Jags handed out on the first day of the NFL’s legal tampering period.
Make no mistake though, Myles will be missed both and on the field. He was the last remaining member of the renowned Sacksonville defense and one of the Jaguars’ locker room leaders. Last season, the veteran linebacker led the team in tackles with 108 and although he was inconsistent in 2021, he’s played at a borderline Pro Bowl level throughout most of his career, so he should definitely help a team. In particular, these three should target him.
Update: Myles Jack is expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Wednesday afternoon.
No. 1 landing spot for former Jaguars LB Myles Jack – Bears.
This is Matt Ebeflus’ first year as the head coach of the Chicago Bears and he will surely put an emphasis on fortifying the defense, his area of expertise. Linebacker is a need for the Bears, which could make Jack an appealing option. After all, they are switching to a 4-3 scheme and will need two starting linebackers to play alongside Roquan Smith.
Although Jack has lined up in the middle, he’s a better fit to play weakside. Nevertheless, he would give Chicago’s linebacker corps a boost right off the bat.
