No. 2 player the Jaguars can trade for in 2022 – Danielle Hunter, DE.

Giving outside linebacker Josh Allen a long-term extension is of uttermost importance but so is acquiring another pass rusher. Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is making a strong case to be the Jaguars’ choice at No. 1 in the 2022 NFL Draft, but general manager Trent Baalke could also target a veteran edge defender such as Chandler Jones or Von Miller in free agency.

A third route to bolster the Jags’ pass rush is trading for Minnesota Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter, who isn’t actively being shopped but could change uniforms this offseason. Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus believes the 2015 third-round pick could be worth a 2023 second-round pick and a 2022 fourth-round selection. Moreover, he sees the Jags as another potential fit for the 2015 third-round pick.

Spielberg notes that Hunter is coming off season-ending injuries in consecutive years, so there’s a chance his trade value might not be that high. If healthy, he could be the perfect bookend for Allen. From 2016 to 2019, the former LSU Tiger didn’t miss a game and logged 48.5 sacks, 59 tackles for a loss, and five forced fumbles. Furthermore, he earned Pro Bowl designations in 2018 and 2019.

If the Jaguars decide to pull the trigger on a trade, they would be getting Hunter’s two-year $25.5 million salary. The team’s brass may need to adjust it down the road if he regains his old form. But if he does, the Jags will not probably mind.
