No. 4 option to replace Jaguars OG Andrew Norwell – Connor Williams.

Back in 2020, it looked like Connor Williams was on his way to becoming one of the top guards in the NFL. However, he was benched in favor of Connor McGregor last season and was also one of the most penalized players in the league. He was able to get back on track and finished the season strong, posting a 76.1 Pro Football Focus overall grade. Still, it’s not often that you see the coaching staff pull a starter out of the field.

A second-round selection by the Dallas Cowboys in 2018, Williams has participated in 57 games with 51 starts over his four-year career. The former Texas Longhorn is a question mark ahead of the offseason. Was he going through a funk in 2021 or did he peak in 2020? Teams with plenty of cap space (like the Jaguars) should have no trouble giving the guard the kind of money will command in free agency but that doesn’t mean they should.

Pro Football Focus expects Williams to sign a three-year, $20 million deal with $12.5 guaranteed. That would be a good deal if he can play up to his potential but the Jaguars should leave the negotiation table if he asks for more. Maybe he went through a rough stretch and he will be even better in 2022 but that’s something the Jaguars should let other teams find out.
