3 former Trevor Lawrence teammates the Jaguars can draft in 2022
The Jacksonville Jaguars will need to make upgrades to pretty much every position but quarterback this offseason. And that’s due to the presence of Trevor Lawrence, the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Lawrence struggled at times during his rookie campaign. But he also displayed flashes of the talent that made him the top quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck back in 2012. Having Urban Meyer as his head coach didn’t help matters, as the former Jaguars’ head coach didn’t seemingly have a plan to develop him. But with Doug Pederson taking over, the young quarterback should improve significantly in Year 2.
Of course, Lawrence’s learning curve could be accelerated if the Jaguars’ brass surrounds him with as much talent as possible this offseason. Last year, they selected running back Travis Etienne, one of his teammates at Clemson, with the 25th overall pick.
The Jaguars’ front office could do something similar in 2022 and draft some of Lawrence’s former teammates at Clemson. Keep in mind this approach isn’t unheard of. The Cincinnati Bengals drafted wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase fifth overall one year after they selected quarterback Joe Burrow.
You could make a strong case that the rapport Burrow built with Chase at LSU carried over into the NFL and helped them have success right away. While Burrow became the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year, Chase got the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. The Jaguars could do something similar and reunite Lawrence with some of his former Clemson teammates. Here are three they could target in the 2022 draft.
