No. 4 Buccaneers free agent the Jaguars can sign – Leonard Fournette, RB.

It feels like yesterday when the Jaguars released running back Leonard Fournette but it’s been more than a year. Truth to be told, they wouldn’t have moved on from him had they not signed James Robinson after going undrafted in 2020.

Hindsight is 20/20 but if the Jaguars had known Robinson would go on to have a historic rookie campaign and become one of the best young running backs in the NFL, they would’ve used a draft pick on him. Another thing to consider is that Jacksonville could’ve had a pretty good one-two punch at running back if they had kept Fournette.

One of the worst mistakes the previous Jaguars administration made was not being able to retain whatever playmakers they had and Fournette has gone on to be a pretty productive player in Tampa Bay. Not that the Jags didn’t know though. After all, the former LSU Tiger racked up 666 carries for 2631 yards 2ith 17 touchdowns during his three-year stint in Duval.

Keep in mind that Travis Etienne suffered a Lisfranc injury last preseason and James Robinson will be recovering from a torn Achilles he sustained late in the 2021 season, so the Jags are better off adding insurance to their running back room. Spotrac expects Fournette to sign a two-year, $12.3 million deal this offseason. That would easily fit the Jaguars’ spending budget and while he may be hesitant to rejoin his old team, there’s a new coach in place and Doug Pederson could assure him that things have changed since he was given his walking papers.
