Jaguars HC Doug Pederson keeps making additions to coaching staff
After being named head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Doug Pederson has acted quickly and decisively while assembling his staff. Defensive line coach Brentson Buckner, offensive line coach Phil Rauscher, special teams coordinator Heath Farwell and Andrew Breiner will be joining Pederson in Jacksonville.
Update Feb, 9: Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is joining the Jaguars as their passing game coordinator, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
Update Feb, 10: The Jaguars have agreed to terms with Press Taylor to join them as their offensive coordinator, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media.
Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network is reporting Buckner is joining the Jags’ coaching staff. The defensive line coach spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and has also worked for the Las Vegas Raiders, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media got the scoop on Farwell on getting the special teams coordinator job. He held the same position with the Buffalo Bills for the last three seasons and will fill the opening left by Nick Sorensen.
Also, Field Yates of ESPN reports that Rauscher will be the Jags’ new offensive line coach/run game coordinator with George Warhop joining Lovie Smith’s coaching staff with the Houston Texans. Rauscher spent the last three years with the Minnesota Vikings. Breiner will also join the Jags as an offensive assistant. He worked for Pederson back in Philly in 2020. On a side note, Ian Report of NFL Media is reporting that Miami Dolphins defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander is Jacksonville interviewing for the Jaguars defensive coordinator job.
Rapoport’s report is a bit puzzling since Mike Caldwell is reportedly set to become the Jaguars’ next defensive coordinator, according to Aaron Wilson. It’s possible that Caldwell and the team haven’t been able to strike an agreement but this will be cleared up soon.
Jaguars HC Doug Pederson should announce his coaching staff soon.
You’ll keep hearing about the Jaguars continuing to fill their coaching staff. Mike McCoy will tentatively be their next quarterbacks coach and Press Taylor seems the favorite to be their offensive coordinator. It doesn’t look like Pederson is keeping any members of the previous staff. One job to keep an eye on is the wide receivers coach. As of this writing, there are no news regarding that position. The same is true for the tight ends coach vacancy.
The Jaguars announced the hiring of Pederson on February 3rd, and he’s wasted no time putting his staff together. With free agency around the corner, it’s hard to blame him. At this pace, the organization will be announcing the entire coaching staff and all the hires in the following days.
