No. 1 Jaguars’ win of the 2021 season – Week 18 against the Colts.

Revenge is a dish best served cold or so the saying goes. Back in Week 10, the Jaguars came close to pulling off an upset against the Indianapolis Colts but their efforts ultimately fell short, and ended up losing the game. However, the Jags would have a chance at payback in the season finale. Heading into the game, Indy was a 15-point favorite and needed to beat Jacksonville to qualify for the playoffs.

At least on paper, this looked like a walk in the park for the Colts. They had one of the best defenses in the NFL and the Jags were coming off a 50-10 loss to the Patriots. But there was one small detail they seemed to have overlooked. The game was at TIAA Bank Field, and the Colts haven’t won there since 2014.

Without much to play for, the Jaguars pulled no punches and went on to beat the Colts 26-11, even though head coach Frank Reich had told his players before the game not to underestimate their opponents. Trevor Lawrence played like a franchise quarterback, going 23-of-32 for 223 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Carson Wentz looked overmatched and unprepared, completing 58.6 percent for his passes with one touchdown and one interception.

The Jaguars ended up knocking the Colts out of playoff contention while clinching the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. This was possible because the Detriot Lions beat the Green Bay Packers in Week 18 and had a better win-loss record than Jacksonville. Furthermore, defensive end Dawuane Smoot and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. reached contract incentives in the game, so they went home with a bit of extra cash.

Now in full offseason mode, the Jaguars should be motivated to work hard in the following months after finishing the 2021 season strong. If they do and the front office bolsters the roster, they should have no trouble racking up a few more wins in 2022.
