The Jacksonville Jaguars’ search for their new head coach is underway. They already met with some candidates and will soon interview others. Next on their wish list are Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

The Jags are scheduled to meet with Hackett Friday and Eberflus Saturday. While neither seems to be a favorite to land the job, the organization is taking their time on the search, unlike last year, when they zeroed in on Urban Meyer early on the process instead of doing due diligence.

While it makes sense to pursue a candidate with Hackett’s profile — someone who can develop Trevor Lawerence — they need to cast a wide net and interview those with a defensive background. Eberflus has done a good job as the Colts’ defensive coordinator since he got the job back in 2018. Over the last four years, his units have ranked lower than tenth in the league in points allowed just once, so it’s only fair that he’s getting a shot at a head coaching job.

If Eberflus becomes the Jaguars’ next head coach, these four Colts’ pending free agents could follow him to Jacksonville.

No. 1 Colt that could follow Eberflus to the Jaguars – Xavier Rhodes.

It looks like cornerback won’t be a position of need for the Jaguars this offseason, as Shaquill Griffin and Tyson Campbell are entrenched as the starters. However, they could bolster their depth behind them and Xavier Rhodes could be one of the best free agents available in 2022.

Rhodes spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted 25th overall pick in 2013. He then joined the Colts in 2020 and has gone on to start 29 games, logging 19 passes defenses and three interceptions. The veteran corner may be past his prime but can still be a solid player and could add depth to the Jaguars’ cornerback room in 2022.
