Jaguars can sign these 3 Texans free agents if they hire Bill O’Brien as HC
No. 3 Texan that can follow Bill O’Brien to Jaguars – Kamu Grugier-Hill.
Again, the Jaguars’ defense could see turnover in 2022 depending on who coaches the unit. Damien Wilson had an outstanding performance in the season finale, registering his first career interception, but he’s slated to hit the open market. At this point, whether he returns to Jacksonville seems to be a coin flip. If the front office moves on from him, they could sign Kamu Grugier-Hill.
A sixth-round selection by the New England Patriots in 2016, Grugier-Hill, was waived that year and claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent the first five seasons of his NFL career. Mostly a special teams player during his stint in Philly but joined the Texans starting lineup in 2021, appearing in 82 percent of their total snaps.
Grugier-Hill made 14 starts in 2021 and logged 108 total tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, and one interception. The linebacker signed a one-year deal worth $2.61 in 2021 but will likely command a bigger amount this offseason after having a career year. Even then, he isn’t going to get a blockbuster deal and should easily fit into the Jags’ budget.
