Rebuilding takes time, so nobody expected the Jacksonville Jaguars (including themselves) to turn things around in just one year after going 1-15 in 2020. On the other hand, things haven’t gone as planned and the Jags are in similar shape than they were at this point last season. Trevor Lawrence has had to endure a lot in his rookie season but remains optimistic the team will eventually turn the corner.

Lawrence met with the local media Wednesday and touched on several topics, including the clown movement that has taken place in Jacksonville. He says that even though he wouldn’t personally do it, he gets the fans’ frustration.

"I understand from a fan’s perspective. Would I do that personally? No, I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t do that. But you know, fans feel how they feel and it’s hard. This year has been disappointing for all of us, we want to win a lot more games, so I get the frustration."

The Jaguars have won just 14 games over the last four seasons. Fans have rightfully grown tired of all the losing that has gone on in Jacksonville. That makes the clown movement even more surprising because they could have tuned out a while back. Instead, they are still rooting for the team and want to see them succeed.

The Jaguars have their quarterback of the future in Trevor Lawrence.

Before Lawrence was took any questions, he was presented with the Pro Football Writers Of America Jacksonville chapter Good Guy Award. This is given to those players who are accessible, insightful, and courteous and no Jaguars player was more upfront and available than him. Week in and week out, he met with the media and never dodged a question he was asked. Instead, the first overall draft pick in 2021 has seemed prepared and always provides insightful comments about the state of the team, the locker room, and his own development in the NFL.

This is going to be a long offseason for the Jaguars. They will be looking for a new head coach and maybe a new general manager. However, they won’t have to worry about looking for a quarterback. Lawrence has shown the on-field attributes and the emotional intelligence to be the face of the franchise moving forward. He himself will tell you he’s excited about what the future holds for him and the team.

"I know there’s there’s some really good days ahead and I’m excited just to experience that with whoever is a part of those teams in the future. And just the city and these fans, I know this this place deserves it so I’m excited for that."

There’s not much the Jaguars can do to help Trevor Lawrence for the remainder of the 2021 season. But once they find their new head coach, the next item on their agenda should be getting their young passer some weapons. His rookie season didn’t go the way they planned but that doesn’t mean his second year in the league has to be the same.
