The Jacksonville Jaguars have suffered a big blow in Week 16, as running back James Robinson is out of the game and likely for the season with a torn Achilles.

James Robinson suffered a non-contact injury. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media says is a torn Achilles and adds that the running back will have an MRI performed to determine the extent of the injury. There’s a good chance his season is likely over. This has been a rough season for Robinson, who previously suffered heel and knee injuries.

Before the game, Robinson was 21 yards away from registering 1,000 yards from scrimmage. On a side note, the Jags are trailing the Jets 16-12 and it will be hard to come back without their star running back.

Dare Ogunbowale has carried the load after Robinson’s injury, posting eight rushes for 22 yards. Robinson finished the game with three carries for ten yards. The Jags are trailing 13-12 at halftime. Trevor Lawrence is 12-of-19 for 109 yards.

This hasn’t been a great season for Jaguars RB James Robinson.

An undrafted free agent in 2020, the former Illinois State Redbird quickly established himself as one of the Jags’ best offensive players. This season, he picked up where he left off, racking up 84 carries for 460 yards with five touchdowns in the first six games of the season. Moreover, he had one of the highest Pro Football Focus overall grades in that snap. Things went south after then, as he suffered a heel injury in Week 8. Although he only missed one game, he wasn’t 100 percent in Week 10 and 11.

To make matters worse, then-Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer benched Robinson in back-to-back weeks after fumbling the ball. He said he didn’t give the order but later said that he did. In the first game after Meyer got fired, the running back got 18 carries and he was set to have a similar workload against the Jets.

Dare Ogunbowale is the only other healthy running back on the Jaguars roster. They placed Carlos Hyde on the Injured Reserve list with a concussion and for the Jets game, they promoted Nathan Cottrell to the active roster. After releasing Ryquell Armstead earlier this week, they brought him back not long ago. He was inactive for the game but could see action in the next two games.
