5 Christmas gifts Jaguars would love to get for next year
The Jaguars surely wish their 2021 season had unfolded in a different way. They are 2-12 ahead of Week 16, their offense has struggled throughout most of the year and they are poised to once again pick at the top of the NFL draft. Furthermore, they will be in the market for a head coach for the second time in as many years.
Furtunately, none of that will matter next year, as all teams will once again be 0-0. If the Jaguars want to turn things around next offseason, they would surely love to find these five presents under their Christmas tree.
No. 1 gift the Jaguars would love to get – A healthy backfield in 2022.
Injuries are an inherent part of football and every team has to deal with them. However, the Jaguars’ backfield was severely affected by them this season, as Etienne and James Robinson suffered injuries.
First, Etienne suffered a Lisfranc injury during the preseason and was promptly placed on the Injured Reserve list. The former Clemson Tiger was supposed to have a big role in the Jags’ offense but the coaching staff had to put whatever plan they had for him on the shelf.
Etienne’s injury paved the way for Robinson to receive a heavy workload once again. However, he got hurt too. Although he only missed Week 9, he wasn’t 100 percent healthy the following weeks. Moreover, then-head coach Urban Meyer benched in back-to-back weeks even though he was one of the few playmakers the Jags had on offense.
Both running backs should be fully healthy next season and whoever becomes the Jaguars’ next head coach will surely look for a way to get the two of them involved instead of showing favoritism for one or the other.
