Jaguars fan makes cameo during James Robinson TD run
Different head coach, same results. At least that’s how this game felt when the Jacksonville Jaguars were trailing 14-3 late the first quarter. However, things have changed a bit since then and they’re now down a manageable 14-10 thanks to a peculiar rushing touchdown by running back James Robinson.
It’s always great to see Robinson score and his most recent touchdown stands out because a fan was on the field during the play. Here’s a short video of the play. You can see the fan wearing a Jags jersey in the upper right-hand corner, via Demetrius Harvey of Big Cat Country.
The fan’s cameo didn’t have an impact in the game. The Jags didn’t get penalized, as the incident was out of his control. This was Robinson’s first touchdown since Week 11. Although his usage decreased in recent weeks the former Illinois State Redbird is having a good game, racking up eight carries for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Jags’ first two possessions.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has also played well, going 5-of-8 for 83 yards in the Jags’ first two drives. It’s too early to tell but it looks like their offense is playing better in the first game without former head coach Urban Meyer. Here’s another and better angle of the fan that got on the field during the touchdown, you can see he gets tackled.
It early looked like these were the same old Jaguars.
The Jaguars’ defense was off to a good start, stopping the Texans’ in their first possession. However, defensive lineman Adam Gotsis undid all their work when he was flagged for illegal use of hands. The penalty gifted Houston with a fresh set of downs, which they used to score their first touchdown of the game, a 22-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
The Jaguars then got the ball and did a good job of traveling the field. Trevor Lawrence completed passes to tight ends James O’Shaughnessy and Chris Manhertz. Running back James Robinson and wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. both got carries. Nevertheless, the Texans stopped them in the red zone and Jacksonville kicked a field goal.
Right after the field goal, the Jaguars allowed a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown, giving the Texans a 14-3 lead. Fortunately, they avoided falling the way they have in other games and just trailing by four points. There’s is still plenty of time to turn the game around and earn the first win of the Darrell Bevell era.
