No. 2 Jaguars player that must shine vs. Rams – Rudy Ford, CB

Nevin Lawson isn’t the only Jaguars cornerback that needs to shine against the Rams. Nickel Rudy Ford will have his work cut out, as he could be responsible for covering tight end Tyler Tighbee. Against the Atlanta Falcons, he allowed a 100 percent completion rate but has generally held his own this season.

Even though Tre Herndon suit up last week, the coaching staff didn’t give him playing time on defense, showing they feel more comfortable with Ford taking the field. Then again, Herndon has been dealing with an MCL injury this season. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why the team tried Ford in the slot.

No. 3 Jaguars player that must shine vs. Rams – DaVon Hamilton, DT

Second-year defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton showed flashes in 2020 before a knee injury cut his season short. He’s done a good job overall this season but had a down game against the Falcons. Even though he played 57 percent of the Jaguars’ defensive snaps, he posted just one pressure and ended the game with a 29.2 Pro Football Focus grade.

The Jaguars’ defense is at its best when they can generate pressure in the interior, giving room for their pass rushers to work their edges. Hamilton will need to do a better job up front in Week 13. He appeared in the injury report early in the week and was a limited participant Friday. He’s cleared but his health will be worth monitoring.
