4 Jaguars potential replacements for Darrell Bevell at offensive coordinator
2. Jaguars potential OC candidate in 2022 – Duce Staley
Duce Staley had a fine career as an NFL running back, racking up 1,430 carries for 5,785 yards and 24 touchdowns. He spent seven years with the Philadelphia Eagles and joined their coaching staff once he stopped playing. The Florida native is currently the Detroit Lions’ assistant head coach and their running back coach and has been looking for an opportunity to eventually become an NFL head coach.
Staley will get his chance sooner rather than later but if he wants to keep building up his resume, he may want to become an offensive coordinator coach first. He’s currently taking on a lot of responsibilities under Dan Campbell in Detroit and is ready to ready for the next step in his quest for a head coaching job.
Back in Philadelphia, Staley coached running backs such as LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, and LeGarrette Blount. In Detroit, he’s getting the most out of D’Andre Swift, Jamal Williams, and Jerman Jefferson. The 1997 third-round pick would arguably have more talent at his disposal in Jacksonville. James Robinson has proven in 2021 his rookie campaign wasn’t a fluke and Travis Etienne should be back. Imagine the kind of production the Jaguars could get from their running back group.
You could argue that Staley doesn’t have experience as an offensive coordinator but many in the league do and still can’t get results, so it may be worth giving him an opportunity. You have to make the leap at some point, and Jacksonville could be the place where Staley does so.
