Those that expected the Jacksonville Jaguars to play an evenly matched game against the San Francisco 49ers were in for a rude awakening Sunday. Although the Jags limited the Niners to just three points after a 13-minute drive, they went on to allow 17 more in the remainder of the first half. In the end, this became a 30-10 blowout, which was worse than the final record suggests.

You could argue that the Jaguars should have given more carries to running back James Robinson early in the game but falling behind so badly, they needed to throw the ball in an attempt to try to catch up. The problem with that is that the Jags’ passing game didn’t click and didn’t do much when they got the ball. In fact, they registered just 87 total yards in the first half and finished the game with a measly 200 total yards.

Robinson did score late in the fourth quarterback but the game was already out of reach by then. The former Redbird was questionable for the game but ended up suiting up. He had12 carries for 29 yards and a rushing touchdown.

For the nth time, Trevor Lawrence didn’t get much help from his supporting cast, going 16-of-25 for 158 yards with no touchdowns. He was also sacked three times. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor was overmatched by 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa, who finished the game with two sacks. If it accounts for something, the rookie passer didn’t turn the ball over.

Penalties and mistakes plagued the Jaguars against the 49ers in Week 11.

Once again, penalties and drops plagued the team, and this time though, it wasn’t just the offense. The defense was also flagged on several occasions. The most egregious one was when safety Rayshawn Jenkins punched 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. He was promptly disqualified for the game. What makes this more frustrating is the fact that Andrew Wingard had just had a tackle for a loss and San Franciso would have punted the ball. That was the story of the game, the defense would make a play only to let a mistake wipe it out.

Fumbles also came costly for the Jaguars. In the first half, wide receiver Laviska Shenault lost one, and later in the game, Tavon Austin muffed a punt. Although Jacksonville’s defense didn’t play great, they’re hardly the reason the Jaguars lost. Then again, the 49ers outplayed the Jags in all three phases of the game.

The Jaguars’ 31-7 loss to the Seahawks was bad but this one was even worse. They played uninspiringly, and it showed on the scoreboard. Jacksonville has their work cut out for them in the offseason. It’s clear they need to prioritize making upgrades to the offense next offseason. Also, they need to keep revamping their defense.
