4 Jaguars who could be looking for new homes in 2022
3. Jaguars player who could find a new home in 2022 – LT Cam Robinson
Re-signing left tackle Cam Robison may be a tricky proposition for the Jaguars’ front office. They opted to apply the franchise tag on him this offseason instead of giving him a multi-year deal. So far, the Alabama product has played well in 2021. Against the Indianapolis Colts, he posted a monster 83.5 Pro Football Focus overall grade.
Robinson missed Week 9 with a back injury but has played 99 percent of the offensive total snaps in the games he’s appeared in. On the other hand, the Jaguars have rookie Walker Little waiting in the wings. The second-round pick in the 2022 draft showed promise in the game Robinson missed, and the coaching staff may be grooming him to take over the left tackle position next year.
Teams aren’t afraid to pay a premium at left tackle, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Robinson demand a top-market deal. It’s uncertain if the Jaguars would be willing to give him a big contract but using the tag for a second straight year would be cost-prohibitive. The truth is that they may be better off taking a top offensive line prospect in the draft like Evan Neal or Ikem Ekworu and giving Little a shot to show he can play.
Also, the Jaguars could allocate the money they would pay Robinson to other positions such as the wide receiver corps or the secondary. Simply, there may be other cheaper and better alternatives to the 2017 second-round pick.
