5 Jaguars who have offered almost nothing to the team in 2021
Jaguars player that has offered almost nothing No. 2 – CB Tre Herndon
Although the Jaguars’ new regime moved on from players the past management acquired, they also brought back plenty of them. Among those players that the team’s brass re-signed are defensive end/outside linebacker Dawuane Smoot and defensive linemen Adam Gotsis.
One returning player that was supposed to have a key role in 2021 was cornerback Tre Herndon. But so far, that hasn’t been the case. After going undrafted in 2018, the Vanderbilt product signed with the Jags, and steadily worked his way up the depth chart, appearing in all 32 games with 26 in the last two years.
Herndon was one of the few healthy cornerbacks last season but he hurt his MCL before the start of the season and missed the first three games. Maybe he should have waited to return, as he’s been far from spectacular, allowing a staggering 92 percent completion rate. Against the Seahawks, he saw his playing time decrease, appearing in eight defensive snaps while Rudy Ford played 36.
Head coach Urban Meyer recently acknowledged that Herndon isn’t 100 percent yet. He also said Ford has earned a bigger workload and will continue to line up in the slot for the foreseeable future. This doesn’t bode well for Herndon who is set to become a free agent in 2022.
