The 2021 trade deadline came and went and the Jacksonville Jaguars refrained from making any moves. There’s no doubt the Jags made and entertained calls to assess any potential deals. Ultimately, there were none to their liking, and decided to roll with their current roster.

Looking back, the Jaguars could have added some depth at wide receiver, the offensive line, and the cornerback room. They will now have to wait until next offseason to bolster those position groups. For the time being, the coaching staff will have to do chicken salad with the talent at hand.

Just to set the record straight, the Jaguars’ roster isn’t currently devoid of playmakers. Sure, they need to add blue-chip players in 2022 but they also have several playmakers that should be part of the team’s long-term future.

Week 9 will offer the Jags to make a positive impression after falling flat against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. In particular, these five players must produce to give Jacksonville a fighting chance versus the Buffalo Bills.

It looked like Laviska Shenault Jr. would earn a bigger role on the offense after DJ Chark suffered an ankle fracture in Week 4. However, Jamal Agnew has established himself as the Jaguars’ number two wide receiver opposite Marvin Jones Jr.

The fact that Viska dropped a couple of passes against the Seahawks hurt his chances of making an impact. In fact, he’s dealt with drops all season long, logging four in seven games. That’s simply too much. He needs to show he can be a reliable option in the passing game in Week 9. Otherwise, Agnew will continue to get more targets for the remainder of the season.
