Jaguars dream trade target No. 2 – Larry Ogunjobi, DT

The Jaguars definitely had some hits back in free agency. Wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr., cornerback Shaquill Griffin and return specialist Jamal Agnew, who also moonlights as a receiver, have all become cornerstone players in Duval. Having said that, there are several position groups the team’s brass could have addressed better. Tight end comes to mind, and so does defensive tackle.

The Jaguars could have signed defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi in free agency. Instead, they traded for Malcom Brown and drafted Jay Tufele. The former hasn’t been relatively quiet, logging while the latter will miss several weeks after hurting his hand during warmups ahead of the game versus the Dolphins.

Ogunjobi has been a solid contributor for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021, starting all seven games and posting 25 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. The 2017 third-round pick has played a key role in Cincy’s 5-2 start this season. Per Aaron Schwartz of Football Outsiders, the Bengals’ defense went from 27th in defensive DVOA last season to fifth this year.

Now, there are no reports about the Bengals interested in dealing Ogunjobi but don’t forget these are dream trade targets and the Charlotte product would give the Jaguars’ defensive front a significant lift, as head coach Urban Meyer recently said the defensive front isn’t generating much pressure in the interior.

The Jaguars wanted to sign Dan Arnold in free agency but they didn’t. They eventually rectified that and ended up trading for him during the regular season. They could do something similar with Ogunjobi.
