The Jaguars’ win in Week 7 was just the beginning.

It was frustrating to watch the Jaguars in the first two weeks of the 2021 season. They lacked discipline, looked overmatched and sloppy. They’ve come a long way since then. They went toe to toe with the Arizona Cardinals and the Cincinnati Bengals in the next two weeks. They actually had a shot to win both games but couldn’t close the deal. Then the Tennessee Titans came to town and once again lost.

However, the Jaguars looked better each week and they finally were able to get their first win in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins. All that work they had put in paid off at last. While Jacksonville isn’t in contention for a playoff spot, they are showing signs of growth, which is precisely what they’re supposed to do in Year 1 of a rebuild.

A few weeks ago, someone wondered if they could go 0-17. Looking back, that was a silly thing to say, as the Jags are no longer in the cellar of the NFL. They popped up at 28th in NFL Media’s power ranking. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk placed them at 27th.

Now, ranking in the low 20s isn’t something to brag about but it’s clear the Jaguars have made strides in recent weeks. It will be up to them to continue taking steps in the right direction and not let their win over the Phins get to their head. The pieces are there, it’s up to head coach Urban Meyer to keep getting the most out of his players.
