Jacksonville Jaguars: Laviska Shenault named league-winning sleeper
The regular season is around the corner and the Jacksonville Jaguars should be pleased with their current wide receiver corps. To begin with, they have a solid trio of playmakers in DJ Chark Jr., Marvin Jones Jr., and Laviska Shenault Jr. Moreover, Tavon Austin and Laquon Treadwell have been making a lot of noise over the last few weeks and both of them have a legitimate shot to make the final 53-man roster. However, if you want to choose one Jags’ receiver for your fantasy football team, Shenault may be the best pick.
Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report recently drew up a list of League-Winning Fantasy Football Sleepers in 2021 and second-year wide receiver popped up. Moton points out that Chark recently underwent hand surgery and won’t likely play until Week 1 of the regular season. He believes this could help Viska develop a better rapport with rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
"In the big picture, that’s good news for the Jaguars and a potential boost for Laviska Shenault Jr. and Marvin Jones Jr. As Chark recovers, rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence could build a strong rapport with both wideouts through three preseason games. While Jones has nine years of NFL experience, Shenault draws intrigue."
Moton goes on to cite Brian Sexton of the team’s official website, who believes Sheanult “might be the go-to receiver” for Lawrence instead of Chark or Jones. Keep in mind that this isn’t the first time the 2020 second-round selection has been named a fantasy sleeper. In fact, he’s been getting praise throughout the offseason.
The Jacksonville Jaguars expect big things from Shenault in Year 2.
If you are into Fantasy Football, you know that nailing your mid and late-round picks is as important as getting the ones in the early rounds right. Players such as running back Derrick Henry and quarterback Patrick Mahomes carry a high value and will be highly coveted. But there will be several players in the later rounds that could make a big impact in 2021. Shenault falls in that category.
The second-year wide receiver showed promise as a rookie, hauling in 58 receptions for 600 yards and five touchdowns. Had he not missed a couple of contests and the Jaguars had had more stability at quarterback last year, his numbers would have probably been better. Heading into the 2021 campaign, the Colorado product is in even better shape.
Running back James Robinson was asked in a sitdown with the local media whom he believed was faster and stronger compared to last year and didn’t hesitate to name Viska. Moreover, Lawrence will now be distributing the ball behind center. Even though he’s a rookie and hasn’t played a snap in the regular season, he’s a clear upgrade at the position. Furthermore, Shenault will often find favorable matchups, as Jones and Chark will draw coverage away from him.
Shenault is poised to have a breakout season both on the field and in fantasy football. Last year, he displayed flashes of what he can do. He is now ready to take the next step and become a key cog on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense.
