Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad candidate No. 2 – Laquon Treadwell

Signing wide receiver Laquon Treadwell isn’t the kind of move that will get you on the front page of the newspapers. After all, the Mississippi product hasn’t become the electrifying playmaker the Minnesota Vikings thought they were getting when they made him the 23rd overall selection in 2016’s draft.

A change of scenery didn’t help Treadwell either as he didn’t do much of note during his stint with the Atlanta Falcons last year. He did register a career-high two touchdowns but that’s not the kind of production you expect from a former first-round selection. However, it seems like he flipped the switch since landing in Jacksonville in July. Although the former Viking hauled in just two catches for 18 yards against the Browns, he’s had a solid offseason and deserves a chance to show what he can do in the next two preseason games.

The truth is that this is a coin flip because this spot could also go to Tavon Austin, who joined the team less than two weeks ago. Both players are borderline candidates to make the team. If the Jags didn’t have as much depth as they have at the position, they would have no trouble earning a roster spot. However, the team has a well-rounded wide receiver corps.

The reason Treadwell made this list over Austin is that the latter had the better performance against the Browns, hauling in four receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. If Treadwell has a good game versus the Saints, the roles could get inverted.
