Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence shines once again, Day 12 notes
The preseason will give the Jacksonville Jaguars the chance to show how much they have improved since head coach Urban Meyer took over earlier this year. Even though their game against the Cleveland Browns on August 12 won’t count toward the standings, the Jags will be able to evaluate the state of their roster.
Keep in mind that the Jaguars will have to trim down their roster from 90 players to 85 Monday, so may be the only chance for some to show they deserve to be on the team in Week 1. One player that won’t have to worry about his job security is quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Clemson product has had an outstanding offseason and has shown the traits — athleticism, awareness, and arm talent — that made him the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Lawrence shined on Day 12 of the training camp, going 15-of-20 with four touchdowns and a two-point conversion, per Michael DiRocco of ESPN. The former Tiger is trending in the right direction and it may be a matter of time before he’s named the starter. For the time being, it looks like Gardner Minshew II will start against the Browns. Don’t read too much into it though. The coaching staff may be giving him as many first-team reps as they can because once Lawrence takes over, it might be more difficult.
Keep in mind that Minshew also needs to be ready and his number of snaps with the one will most likely go down with the regular inching closer. In the meantime, here are more observations about Day 12 of Jaguars training camp.
