“There are takers and there are givers”. Those were the first words of Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer when he met with the local media after the first day of training camp. The Ohio native then explained that takers are people you have to constantly motivate all the time while “great players you prepare”. He believes cornerback Shaquill Griffin falls in the latter category and pointed out that the 2019 Pro Bowl nod loves the game as much as he loves to practice.

Meyer went on to say that the Jaguars “hit it out of the park” in free agency. He named several players that the organization signed earlier this year and credited the coaching staff and general manager Trent Baalke for research they did on them.

Urban Meyer praised Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver DJ Chark.

Later in the sitdown, the former Florida head coach talked about wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. and how he was receptive to putting in more weight earlier this year.

“DJ is great… I heard that someone said how can you challenge them? Oh, that’s daily, that’s part of the coach’s job, so there’s zero resistance, and that’s something that can make him better, and he’s worked hard out. He looks great, his body looks great, his strength has really improved”.

Chark told the media he’s worked on his speed a lot and feels it coming off the ball. He explained that is something that wide receiver coach Sanjay Lal Sanjay and Meyer have really buckled down on.

"I feel it coming off the ball, coming in and out of breaks. Just moving people around, notice some good to add to my game as well as being shifty."

Here are more takeaways from the Jaguars’ first day of training camp.
