Jacksonville Jaguars 53-man roster projection ahead of training camp
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense will experience turnover in 2021.
The Jaguars’ defense will undergo more changes than the offense. One of them will be on the scheme. Defensive coordinator Joe Cullen will run a system with 3-4 and 4-3 elements. On the personnel side of things, the team’s brass fortified the defensive front and added depth and a couple of playmakers to the secondary this offseason.
Defensive tackles (4): Malcom Brown, Jay Tufele, Doug Costin, and DaVon Hamilton
Malcom Brown will most likely start. The Jags need to figure out who will play next to him when they line up in 4-3 sets.
Defensive ends/edge (6): Josh Allen, K’Lavon Chaisson, Jordan Smith, Dawuane Smoot, Roy-Robertson Harris, Jihad Ward
Although Jacksonville didn’t sign a premier pass rusher in free agency, they are well-equipped to pressure the quarterback and withstand injuries in 2021.
Linebackers (4): Myles Jack, Joe Schobert, Damien Wilson, Leon Jacobs
If Dylan Moses shows he’s healthy in training camp, he could make a push to earn a roster spot. In the meantime, he looks like a candidate to join the practice squad.
Cornerbacks (5): C.J. Henderson, Shaquill Griffin, Tyson Campbell, Tre Herndon, Sidney Jones
One year ago, this group looked very different. Now, the Jaguars have five players that could start this upcoming season.
Safeties (5): Jarrod Wilson, Rayshawn Jenkins, Daniel Thomas, Andre Cisco, Rudy Ford
Jarrod Wilson and Rayshawn Jenkins will most likely be the starters in Week 1 but Daniel Thomas and Andre Cisco will compete for playing time. Rudy Ford could see significant playing time on special teams.
Special teams (3): Josh Lambo (kicker), Logan Cooke (punter), Ross Matiscik (long snapper)
Josh Lambo will compete with Aldrick Rosas for kicking duties but the former gets the gig.
