The Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t had any of their players grace the Madden cover, could quarterback Trevor Lawrence be the first one ever?

Whether you play video games or not, you might’ve heard that being featured on the Madden cover is a great honor, as it highlights the most popular NFL players at the moment. It’s not on par with earning a Pro Bowl selection or an All-Pro designation but is still a nice achievement. Quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady will be on this year’s cover. No Jaguar has ever appeared on it before. Could rookie Trevor Lawrence be the first one?

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report recently ranked the NFL’s most likely future Madden cover stars and the Clemson product popped up on the list. Sobleski points out that expectations for the first overall pick in 2021’s draft are immense. After all, he’s been dubbed the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck. Sobleski notes that the Stanford product never appeared on the Madden cover but believes Luck has the potential to do so.

This is the second time both Brady and Mahomes are on the Madden cover. The former was featured in 2017 and the latter in 2019. On one hand, they both have won Super Bowl recently and are currently two of the most prominent NFL players. Even people that don’t follow football are surely acquainted with the quarterbacks. Nevertheless, whoever is in charge of deciding who will grace the cover should choose someone else. Of course, it has to be a player everyone recognizes, that’s why the Jags haven’t had any of their players on the cover.

Could Trevor Lawrence buck the trend for the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Sure, this Jacksonville team has had really good players throughout its history. Running back Fred Taylor comes to mind and so does wide receiver Jimmy Smith, who should have been already enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The problem with either one is that they were underlook by the national media when they played. One of the reasons they were underlook is that the Jaguars haven’t been good in a while. They made the AFC Championship in 2017 but other than that, they haven’t won much in a while.

The Jack del Rio era had its moments but you would have to go back to the early years of the franchise to find an upper-echelon squad. On the bright side, it looks like the Jaguars got it right when they hired Urban Meyer as the head coach. A proven winner at the collegiate level, Meyer is expected to turn the Jags into a winning team. Having Trevor Lawrence should make his job considerably easier and so far, he’s done a good job of shaking things up in his short tenure in Jacksonville.

If the Jaguars start winning games soon, it will be because of Lawrence. Sure, Meyer will surely have played a key role as well, but would you rather have on the Madden cover?
