The Jacksonville Jaguars took advantage of the robust amount of cap space they had this offseason and added several players in free agency. Moreover, they came out of this year’s draft with a handful of building blocks. The Jags also some of their cap to keep many of their own players. However, not everybody that was on the roster last year will be with the team in Week 1.

The Jaguars currently have 90 players but that number will have to be trimmed to 53 before the start of the 2021 season. While some players have a roster spot guaranteed — there’s no way the team would release quarterback Trevor Lawrence, for example — others will have to impress the new regime and show they can be of use. Tim Tebow, who is making the transition to tight end, is one of those players.

However, there are other lesser-known players that will be competing for a job either in Jacksonville or somewhere else. Here are five Jaguars who are on the roster bubble.

5. Nathan Cottrell, running back

The Jaguars signed veteran Carlos Hyde and drafted Travis Etienne in the first round of this year’s selection meeting. Dare Ogunbowale started the last two games of the 2020 season and James Robinson will still have an important role on the Jaguars’ offense. That may leave just one spot for one more running back on the roster in 2021.

An undrafted free agent in 2020, Nathan Cottrell has never had a regular-season carry. However, he could make the team due to his special-teams play.
