Jacksonville Jaguars 3 most winnable games in 2021
The Jacksonville Jaguars will take advantage of the Houston Texans’ woes.
An old adage says that you should never kick someone when they are down but that doesn’t apply to the NFL, where every game matters and each play could turn out to have a butterfly-like kind of effect. You may be wondering what that has to do with Jaguars football but that leads to the Houston Texans.
Last year, the Jags were swept by the Texans. However, both teams are headed in different directions. While Jacksonville regrouped after the season and is overseeing a rebuild, Houston currently appears to be lost, and couldn’t make major additions in free agency because they lacked both cap space and draft picks after making questionable personnel moves last year.
Although Bill O’Brien is no longer the Texans head coach, his impact is still felt in the organization. He traded All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for a David Johnson that was past his prime, gave away two first-round picks in exchange for left tackle Laremy Tunsil, and promptly gave him a top-market contract.
Also, the status of quarterback Deshaun Watson for the 2021 season is uncertain, as he faces several lawsuits that allege sexual misconduct but even before his legal woes, he was uninterested in playing in Houston any longer and Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported that ‘people in league circus’ believe the 2017 first-round pick won’t play this year.
The Jaguars now need to take advantage of their AFC South and beat them while they can. If they were at full strength, they wouldn’t hold back, so this Jacksonville team shouldn’t pass up the chance to win a division game. That’s what Houston would do if the Jags were in the same position. For that reason, expect the Jaguars to win the season opener.
