4 Jaguars rookies who will make the biggest impact in 2021
The 2021 NFL Draft is in the books and the Jacksonville Jaguars were able to land a franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence and a handful of other prospects that could have an impact right off the bat. Keep in mind the Jags were projected to use the first overall pick on the Clemson standout so his selection wasn’t shocking.
However, the same can’t be said about their other early-round picks, as the Jags made a few surprising selections. This doesn’t mean their draft class is bad, it’s just that it took an unexpected turn but even then, they were able to land some players who should become key contributors in Jacksonville. Here are the four that will make the biggest impact in 2021.
The Jaguars traded for Malcom Brown this offseason and defensive tackles DaVon Hamilton and Doug Costin showed promise as rookies last season. However, they added Jay Tufele to the mix. The USC standout didn’t play in 2020 but registered 35 total tackles, ten tackles for a loss, and 6.5 sacks in the previous two years. He has the tools to become a starter down the road the kind of work ethic that should help him succeed in the NFL.
The Jaguars had a hard time stopping opposing offenses last year and defensive tackle was one of their weakest position groups. While Costin and Hamilton while surely have a prominent role early on, don’t be surprised if Tufele takes away snaps from them and progressively sees his workload increase in 2021.
