Jaguars roster: 3 reasonable expectations for Trevor Lawrence in 2021
After months of waiting, it’s official. The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. They had been looking for a franchise quarterback for more than a decade and it seems like their search has come to an end, but what kind of expectations should they have for the Clemson standout in 2021?
Lawrence recently talked to Peter King of NBC Sports about joining the Jags and some of his own expectations. He says it feels great to be a part of the team and is excited to make Jacksonville his home. Speaking about the transition to the NFL, the quarterback said is aware that the level of competition in the NFL will be higher than it was at Clemson but says will continue to be who he is and adds that he’s accustomed to playing under pressure.
Later in the conversation, Lawrence said that he wears number 16 because of former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. He mentioned that he’s been fortunate to talk to the All-Pro and shared some of the advice he has been given, such as coming in and going to work, and earning the trust of his teammates.
Lawrence told King he hates to lose and will have the same mindset he had at Clemson. He says he won’t get content and doesn’t want to expect to lose. While it will be a while before he takes the football field and wins some football games, here are three reasonable expectations for him this upcoming season.
