The Jacksonville Jaguars have depth at quarterback.

4. Jake Luton

The Jaguars lacked stability at quarterback last season. Gardner Minshew II started the first seven games but was later benched in favor of Jake Luton, who raised some eyebrows in his rookie debut after completing 26 of 28 passes for 304 yards with one passing touchdown, one interception, and a rushing touchdown. However, he came crashing down in his following two starts and was eventually benched in favor of veteran Mike Glennon.

A sixth-round pick in 2020, Luton wasn’t ready to take on the starting role but he could develop into a solid backup. The Jags may be in trouble if he needs to start a game in 2021 and is a prime candidate to land in the team’s practice squad.

3) C.J. Beatheard

The Jaguars signed C.J. Beathard this offseason. A 2017 third-round selection, he has appeared in 19 games with 12 starts and has completed 291 of 497 passes for 3,469 yards with 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. During his stint with the San Francisco 49ers, he served as Jimmy Garoppolo’s backup and will likely have a similar role in Jacksonville.

Beathard has starting experience and may compete with Minshew for the primary backup quarterback job in training camp, but it’s unlikely he will see the field often in 2021 and if he makes the team, he might be inactive often. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Jags release him or trade him before the start of the regular season if Jake Luton shows growth.
