Jacksonville Jaguars: 4 bold predictions for 2021’s NFL Draft
3. The Jacksonville Jaguars will trade back in the first round.
While there’s no way the Jaguars will trade the top pick in the draft and the chance to take Trevor Lawrence, there’s a chance they deal their second-first round pick, the 25th overall selection, and trade back a few spots.
General manager Trent Baalke said the team will consider it if the right opportunity comes, but why would they do that? Back in free agency, they focused on adding depth to both sides of the ball but refrain from signing big-name free agents even though they had the most cap space in the league. Although the roster looks in better shape than it did at the end of the 2020 season, they still need to add a few difference-makers in the draft and most of the players they can take at 25 will be available at the end of the first round.
The Jaguars could trade back and get the 29th pick from the Green Bay Packers or the 30th selection from the Buffalo Bills and still land a quality player. This is going to be a deep offensive tackle class, so this Jacksonville team could get one in the second or even third round.
You could argue Jacksonville should target a safety or a cornerback but they signed Rayshawn Jenkins and Shaquill Griffin this offseason and could address either position in the second round.
On the other hand, there is just one defensive tackle worth a first-round selection, Christian Barmore of Alabama and if he’s gone by the time the Jags are on the clock with the 25th pick, they could easily move back a few spots, so who would they draft if they traded back?
