The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced that they have signed former Super Bowl LIV Champion, linebacker Damien Wilson. Wilson joins an already solid linebacker corp with Myles Jack, Joe Schobert, and Josh Allen.

Damien Wilson was drafted out of the University of Minnesota by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played four seasons in Dallas and had 121 tackles, 2.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and eight quarterback hits. He also notably contributed on special teams.

Wilson signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent in 2019, where he has spent the last two seasons with the team. During his time in Kansas City, he appeared in two Super Bowls with the team, earning one ring. His stats in Kansas City consist of 154 tackles, 1.5 sacks, six tackles for loss, and four quarterback hits.

The Jaguars are bringing in a solid contributor and special teamer who has been taught how to play all three linebacker positions: strong-side linebacker, weak-side linebacker, and middle linebacker.

Primarily a strong-side linebacker during his career, Wilson brings quality coverage skills to Jacksonville’s defense. While the depth chart is still yet to be determined, Jags fans could be seeing Wilson at strong-side with Joe Schobert in the middle and Myles Jack at weak-side.

What makes this an interesting group of linebackers is that all three are incredibly versatile players who can fulfill multiple roles on defense. This will allow flexibility and adjustment with the new suspected 3-4 defensive scheme in Jacksonville.

Wilson has a bit of a connection to Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. While he didn’t play under Meyer at all in college, Meyer must have been familiar with Wilson as he played for Minnesota in the Big Ten Conference, the same as Ohio State.

Overall, this is an incredibly solid addition by the Jaguars and I’m surprised that Wilson wasn’t signed by a team by this point.
