It’s been nearly one week since the NFL legal tampering period and the new league year has begun. The Jacksonville Jaguars were initially quiet as the free agency period began but eventually made some big impact moves. Their biggest move of the week was by signing free-agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin to a three-year deal.

In this post-free agency mock draft, the Jaguars will continue to fill out their roster in preparation for an improved 2021 season.

A sum of the Jaguar’s free agency moves:

  • Franchise tagged OT Cam Robinson
  • Re-signed TE James O’Shaughnessy
  • Re-signed CB Sidney Jones IV
  • Re-signed DE Dawuane Smoot
  • Re-signed CB Tre Herndon
  • Re-signed IOL Tyler Shatley
  • Re-signed P Logan Cooke
  • Traded for Saints DT Malcolm Brown
  • Signed WR Marvin Jones Jr.
  • Signed S Rayshawn Jenkins
  • Signed DE/DT Tyson Alualu
  • Signed WR Phillip Dorsett
  • Signed RB Carlos Hyde
  • Signed DT Roy Robertson-Harris
  • Signed DE Jihad Ward
  • Signed TE Chris Manhertz
  • Signed S Rudy Ford
  • Signed KR Jamal Agnew
  • Signed K Aldrick Rosas

The first overall pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars has not changed and will continue to be Trevor Lawrence leading up to draft day. They need a franchise quarterback and they have their chance to get the right player at number one overall. Don’t overthink the pick. Don’t get cute. Draft Trevor Lawrence.

Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore is the perfect pick for Jacksonville at 25th overall. He has the kind of size that Urban Meyer likes on his defensive line and is a top position of need that Jaguars still have to address.

The Jaguars barely touched their offensive line in free agency aside from tagging tackle Cam Robinson and re-signing guard/center Tyler Shatley. Even though Jacksonville is taking a chance on Robinson and keeping him around another year, they must draft an offensive tackle within the first three rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft. Samuel Cosmi out of Texas would be my first choice here but if the Jaguars can pick up a solid defensive lineman 25th overall and Cosmi is gone by pick 33, Jalen Mayfield out of Michigan is the next clear decision.

Despite retaining James O’Shaughnessy in free agency and signing Chris Manhertz, the Jaguars are still missing their number one tight end. It seems obvious that Jacksonville has to have a specific plan in place to add the right tight end to their team through the draft. Kyle Pitts is very likely out of the Jaguars’ reach, which leaves Pat Freiermuth from Penn State as their next best option and it’s the one to go with. There are a handful of other talented tight ends available later in the draft but Freiermuth has the ability to bring a Rob Gronkowski-like factor to the Jaguars offense.
