Jacksonville Jaguars: Grading offensive free agency additions
The Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the most active teams in the first days of free agency, making all kinds of signings. In fact, you could describe their moves as balanced. Even though they added plenty of depth in the open market, they also signed a few key contributors such as former Los Angeles Chargers safety Rayshawn Jenkins and cornerback Shaquill Griffin.
While most of the signings the Jaguars made in free agency were on defense, they didn’t neglect their offense and added some players that should have a key role in 2021. After all, they ranked 28th in total yards and 30th in points scored last season. Although the lack of a franchise quarterback played a role in the team’s inability to score points, most position groups on offense were in need of an upgrade and depth.
Moreover, the Jaguars are expected to use the first overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. If the organization wants him to succeed right out of the gate, they will have to surround him with as much talent as they can and give him as many weapons as possible.
The Jaguars still need to add a tight end after passing up the chance to sign Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith, the best two available in the free-agent market. Also, they could still add another wide receiver in the draft. Nevertheless, they made some important additions to the roster in free agency, and here are the grades for each one of them.
