Jacksonville Jaguars can still add these 3 players in free agency
Brian Poole can bolster the Jacksonville Jaguars’ cornerback room.
The Jaguars addressed most of their needs on defense but there are still a few positions they could upgrade in free agency and slot cornerback is one of them. Signing Shaquil Griffin was a great move and so was bringing back Tre Herndon and Sidney Jones. However, they all are better fits outside and even though Herndon has handled slot duties in the past, there’s still room for improvement.
After going undrafted in 2016, Poole signed with the Atlanta Falcons and spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets. Over his five-year career, he’s appeared in 70 games with 28 starts and has logged 299 total tackles (17 for a loss), a surprising six sacks, 24 passes defensed, one forced fumble, and seven interceptions.
Last season, Poole allowed a 64.1 completion rate but didn’t give up a single touchdown. In fact, he had a 79.5 Pro Football Focus coverage grade in 2020 and posted an 80.0 the season before. Fellow slot cornerback Mike Hilton agreed to a four-year $24 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Jaguars could offer Poole a similar amount.
