The Jacksonville Jaguars have a workhorse running back in James Robinson. If they or other NFL teams had known how good the Illinois product was going to be in his rookie campaign, he wouldn’t have gone undrafted in 2020’s selection meeting.

In the end, it didn’t matter, as Robinson was the first undrafted free agent to gain 1,000 scrimmage yards in his first ten games and got the most scrimmage yards by an undrafted rookie in 2020. However, he also missed two games with an ankle injury and carried 86 percent of the Jaguars’ carries last season, the highest figure in the league.

If the Jaguars want to maximize Robinson’s performance in his sophomore campaign, they should get him a good backup that can take some of the load off his shoulders, spell him from time to time and start a few games in case he misses time with injuries again. General manager Trent Baalke said in a conference with the local media that the team wants to bolster their running back room and add explosiveness to it, so they will get another running back this offseason.

While the 2021 NFL Draft will offer some appealing options, the Jaguars will have plenty of cap space to make a few splash signings in free agency. Here are the top three they should pursue in the open market.
