The Jacksonville Jaguars could be moving on from Andrew Norwell.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are aware they had to make significant changes after winning just 12 games in the last three seasons. A new facility would surely help and changes to the coaching staff and front office were needed. However, they also need to reshape their roster and move on from players they don’t think fit new head coach Urban Meyer’s vision. One player that may not return in 2021 is left guard Andrew Norwell.

One week after Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported the Jags could trade Norwell, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated says the team has asked the left guard to take a pay cut.  Norwell is set to count $15 million against the cap and releasing him or trading him would free up $9 million with a $6 million dead cap hit. The Jaguars aren’t in need of cap space, so it’s worth wondering why they would want to part ways with him.

Norwell’s performance in Jacksonville hasn’t been proportional to the five-year $66.5 million contract he signed in 2018, so the team’s brass could be either looking for a cheaper alternative or an upgrade at left guard. The Ohio State product hasn’t been bad per se, but he hasn’t been the All-Pro the Jaguars thought they were getting back when they signed him either.

On the other hand, Norwell is a solid guard that could bolster another team’s offensive line, so the Jaguars should explore trade possibilities. Here are three teams that could trade for the veteran left guard or sign him if he’s released.
