2021 NFL Draft, picks 6 to 12

Round 1, pick 6 – Philadelphia Eagles: QB Justin Fields, Ohio State

The Philadelphia Eagles may have traded away Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts but don’t look for 2020 second-round pick Jalen Hurts to be their franchise quarterback just yet. The Eagles will probably prefer to go with Justin Fields over Trey Lance, who comes out of North Dakota State, as did Carson Wentz.

Round 1, pick 7 – Detroit Lions: WR DaVonta Smith, Alabama

The Detriot Lions swapped quarterbacks with the Los Angeles Rams and they need new weapons for signal-caller Jared Goff. The Lions end up getting themselves the 2020 Heisman Trophy Winner here.

Round 1, pick 8 – Carolina Panthers: QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State

Teddy Bridgewater didn’t pan out the way the Carolina Panthers had hoped, so they go get themselves a replacement in quarterback Trey Lance.

Round 1, pick 9 – Denver Broncos: CB Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech

The Denver Bronco’s biggest need is at cornerback and they have the opportunity to get the best one in the draft at number nine overall.

Round 1, pick 10 – Dallas Cowboys: OT Rashawn Slater, Northwestern

The Dallas Cowboys are going to pay Dak Prescott a lot of money, either this year or next, so they need someone to protect him and Rashawn Slater can do the job.

Round 1, pick 11 – New York Giants: WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama

The New York Giants need playmakers and they get a good one here. Jaylen Waddle could be the first or second wide receiver picked, but if he isn’t, the Giants then have a chance to get him.

Round 1, pick 12 – San Francisco 49ers: CB Jaycee Horn, South Carolina

The San Francisco 49ers have a couple of needs on defense that they have to address. Jaycee Horn makes a lot of sense, but so does defensive end Gregory Rousseau out of Miami. Either one could go at this spot.
