Scouting the AFC West: 3 Chiefs FAs Jacksonville Jaguars should target
The Jacksonville Jaguars need to add depth to their offensive line.
Offensive guard Kelechi Osemele signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs last offseason after Laurent Duvernay-Tardif opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns. The former second-round pick played at a high level and ended up starting five games before suffering injuries to both knees.
Osemele played a total of 282 snaps in 2020 and didn’t give up a sack nor a hit. If he’s fully healthy or close to it, the Jaguars should pursue him in free agency. Fair or not, his market will likely take a hit due to his injury history. He only played on three games in 2019 after undergoing a shoulder injury and missed five games the year before with a knee injury.
The Iowa State product was a Pro Bowler and a First-Team All-Pro as recently as 2016. You could argue injuries have taken a toll on him but he showed last season he still has plenty of gas in the tank. The COVID-19 pandemic will once again make it difficult for teams to conduct physical tests, but if the Jaguars’ medical staff clears Osemele, their front office should definitely kick the tires on him.
