Have you ever wanted to clean a mess in your room but you don’t know where to start? That more or less describes the Jacksonville Jaguars’ current situation. They have so many roster holes to address that they could start anywhere. Outside of using the first overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft to take a quarterback, it’s uncertain what they will do with their remaining picks, but drafting Texas left tackle Sam Cosmi should be an option with the 25th overall pick.

Ryan Gosling of Pro Football Network projects the ‘Jags’ will take Cosmi with their second first-round selection. He believes that even though the Texas native is raw, he could turn into a premier left tackle under new head coach Urban Meyer. The analyst also cites Cosmi’s outstanding physical traits as a reason for his potential success at the pro level.

Cosmi started at right tackle in 2018 but switched to the left side the following year. He is one of the most physically gifted tackle prospects in this year’s draft class and he may be the one with the highest ceiling. At this point of his career, he may be better at run blocking than pass protection, but he has the tools to turn into a complete player in the NFL.

Why it makes sense for the Jacksonville Jaguars to draft Sam Cosmi.

This is not the first time a mock draft foresees the Jaguars taking Cosmi with the selection they got from the Los Angeles Rams as part of the trade for cornerback Jalen Ramsey in 2019, and even though they could go defense with the pick, drafting the Texas standout at number 25 makes sense.

Left tackle Cam Robinson has been inconsistent throughout his four-career and is scheduled to hit the open market. Instead of giving a contract to the former second-round pick, the ‘Jags’ could use the opportunity to upgrade the position and allocate the money it would take to re-sign him to another unit.

The Jaguars need to add talent to their defense and using the 25th selection on a prospect like Trevon Moehrig makes sense. However, if they want to bolster the left tackle position, adding Cosmi with that pick would be terrific.
