Carlos Basham Jr.’s quality week of practice at the Reese’s Senior Bowl should catch the Jaguars’ attention.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have two promising edge defenders currently in Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson. However, the young duo can’t do it alone in today’s NFL. The more depth along the defensive front a team can get, the better. A prospect who can assist the Black and Teal in the upcoming NFL draft is Wake Forest’s Carlos Basham Jr.

The Virginia native is coming off an impressive week at the Reese’s Senior Bowl and numerous members of the NFL media took note. His nickname is ‘Boogie’ and he showed everyone in Mobile, Alabama why when he moved his 6-foot-3, 280-pound frame to the backfield with a swiftness.

In addition to his intricate arsenal of pass rush combos, Basham also showcased the power that assists him in defending the run. Overall, his collegiate resume exemplifies that of a player with a versatility the Jaguars can rely on.

Carlos Basham Jr.’s versatility should have the Jacksonville Jaguars’ attention.

Many scouts and pundits are intrigued by Basham’s unique physical frame. With these measurements, many prospective NFL teams are enamored with his potential to play at multiple positions along the defensive line. While a member of the Demon Deacons, Basham accumulated 19.5 sacks, primarily from the edge position.

As you can see above, Basham is able to manipulate opposing offensive linemen with his impressive arm length. In addition to sacking quarterbacks, ‘Boogie’ also racked up 35.5 tackles for loss in 43 collegiate games played. Above all, he is a technician who can use a variety of moves to get into the backfield.

With a host of technical and physical abilities, the ‘Jags’ would be wise to invest in a proven player that can potentially play multiple positions along the defensive line. If they were to make a move, expect it to be either in the second or early third round of the 2021 NFL draft. There are a few players the Jaguars should consider in the second round and Basham should be part of that list.
