Quinn Meinerz, an offensive lineman out of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, has been the hottest talking point of the 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl. The Jacksonville Jaguars have a few crucial needs on the offensive line. While the 2021 NFL Draft is stacked in a lot of good offensive line talent, the Jaguars have to keep their eye on Quinn Meinerz in the later rounds of the draft.

Quinn Meinerz could be the light of the Jaguars offensive line

Many were simply infatuated by Meinerz’s cheeky personality and his non-shyness to put his gut on display. The biggest thing that stands out about Meinerz is how he’s been able to emerge from a little no known prospect at a small school to one of the top names to come out of the Senior Bowl.

Small school prospects don’t get enough attention as is and Meinerz was faced with another bout of adversity when it came to COVID-19 lockdown. The lockdown changed the college scouting landscape for the NFL as scouts had to adjust to scouting players purely on tape. COVID-19 also forced sub-FBS college football teams to cancel their 2020 seasons, which compelled Meinerz to find other ways to prepare for the NFL Draft.

Meinerz spent most of his time during his ‘offseason’ “clearing brush, rolling 400-pound fuel tanks, and clearing trees”, according to Eric Edholm at Yahoo. He even pushed around hefty rocks as a part of his workout.

Jaguars OL could benefit from Meinerz’s power

Meinerz showed his improved versatility at the Senior Bowl and how can be a powerful impact at both guard and center. He’s been as stable as a brick wall and has shown his dominance against Power Five defensive lineman.

Meinerz will translate as a strong run blocker and pass pro in the NFL as he’s proven to be able to drive his legs and run down defenders with ease. He has a strong frame and loves to be the first to initiate contact. He could still work on his mechanics to maximize his flexibility and improve his hand technique but he’s an incredibly solid draft prospect.

Really the only level of concerns about Meinerz would be the level of competition he’s gone up against. This is exactly he took the opportunity to be invited to the Senior Bowl to show what he can do against some of the best defensive linemen in the draft.
