Should the Jacksonville Jaguars be concern about Urban Meyer?

The Jacksonville Jaguars currently hold the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and are expected to take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. One Hall-of-Fame running back thinks this may not be the best for the 2020 ACC Player of the Year.

Former Los Angeles Rams running back Marshall Faulk said in a sit-down with TMZ Sports that he is worried for Lawrence. He brings up the fact Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer hasn’t been able to develop a quarterback outside of Alex Smith even though he had good attempts back in both Florida and Ohio State.

Faulk adds he wants to see who the offensive coordinator before he passes judgment and even suggests the Jaguars could trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson if they want they really want to build.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were aware of Urban Meyer’s track record.

It’s true Meyer hasn’t had a good track record developing quarterbacks at the college level. However, it’s too early to make any assumptions or be concerned about Lawerence or any other prospects. When the former Florida and Ohio State head coach with the Jaguars’ brass, he laid out his vision and surely explained how he plans to groom the Clemson quarterback, or whichever prospect the team ends up drafting.

Meyer is smart enough to surround himself with coaches that are going to help him implement his vision and get the most out of his players. On the broadcast, Faulk says that the last time he checked Meyer loves calling plays, but as a matter of fact, the head coach has already stated he will delegate that responsibility.

Scott Linehan has emerged as a prime candidate for the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator job. You can argue his play-calling was not the most creative one back with the Dallas Cowboys, but you can’t deny the fact he helped Dak Prescot become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

Faulk is right when he says Meyer’s track record of developing college quarterbacks is less than stellar. Nevertheless, the Jaguars felt comfortable enough to offer him the head-coaching job and believe he’s the right man to turn the franchise around and oversee the growth of their next franchise quarterback.
